Transmission problem

  1. I have a 1998 f150 4 wheel drive 4.6 liter engine. It's putting up the code p1747 pressure control solenoid A short circuit. I've replaced the solenoids in the transmission, fluid and filter but it hasn't fixed the problem. It runs fine when idling but put it in gear and it won't hardly move. Could it be the computer? I'm stumped please help thanks. Joe

Find the pin out of the trans and check resistance on the pins going to that solenoid.  If good, yea it could be the computer.  I suspect you'll find it reads bad or a bad connection.  May be bad internal wiring harness if resistance check is bad.  How many miles on current trans?

@hillbilly
260,000 miles, mostly highway. I've changed the fluid and filter around every 50,000 miles. Never had an issue until about a month ago and it started this stuff. Thank you for the advice sir.

Your very welcome. That's a bit of miles so a rebuild may be required. With that said, It's lasted a longgg time and no doubt due to your great maintenance routine. I'd find a good shop and rebuild it (assuming it's not pcm... which is less likely). Check out precision transmission on u tube for details replacement part/procedures so you know how/what to request of the rebuild guy.

Torque convertor or transmission pump failing.
