I recently got a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with a v8 magnum 5.9 liter engine. The truck is 4 wheel drive and the transmission will not shift. It stays in first gear. The transmission fluid and filter has been changed but it did not work. I think it might be the transmission going out but I am not sure

The truck wont make it that far
Try adding a quart of Lucas transmission stabilizer. It may help short term. But longterm the transmissions on those were just weak. Especially with the 5.9L, if you decide to get a transmission go with a company like Jasper if you plan on keeping the truck for awhile. Some of these cheaper transmission shops charge you 2-3k bucks and only replace enough parts to get it back on the road. A year later your having other transmission issues.
