Hey Scotty bought a 15 Hyundai Sonata 6 speed automatic and it has a 2-3 shift flare first start up of the day once it shifts to 3rd the second time it goes away. My friend has a 2020 kia optima same transmission and engine with 5000 km on it and it does the same thing any idea what this might be ? Thanks I also have a video of the rpm gage but don't know how to send
Technically it's pressure and flow in valve body and/or delay in actuating 3rd gear solenoid (which may be programmed by tcm).
Try this next time, before you take off (put in gear and drive)... let car warm up to normal temp then start driving. I doubt it will do it then and if so, the trans is most ok and just programmed to do that. But yea, not ideal but ok.
Do all periodic maintenance on time for longevity.
I have a 2014 Kia Soul which uses a similar transmission and on the Kia forum there have been reports of a 2-3 tie up (opposite of the flare up) in cold weather. Someone there claimed the 26 brake and 35R clutch are not well timed, and FWIW, there is an aftermarket shift kit made for this transmission. In your case with a flare up, I would check the fluid to be sure its not burnt or carrying a lot of suspended clutch material, and if under warranty get it serviced and/or documented with Kia and the dealer.
