My car has over 220k miles (2014 Honda Civic with CVT Transmission) on it and has not been to the mountains in over 100k miles. How will the hilly and steeper terrain affect my transmission? I have maintained the transmission properly and have the fluid changed every 30k miles per the owner's manual. Thanks.

It will put strain on your transmission. Try not to push the car hard and use brake as much as you can in order to avoid strain on the transmission.
How would the strain be different as a significant amount of travel would be by interstate and main roadways.

Going up hills would put more strain but as long as the transmission has been maintained and is in good shape you should be fine.
