Transmission range sensor circuit malfunction (PRNDL input)

Hi

I have a 2012 Kia Sorento diesel 4 cyl 2.2L 6 speed automatic

Here in Australia it is summer.

My car has driven 682,000 km and still on original engine. Gearbox has 530,000 km.

No mechanical issues.

Until 2 days ago, the car won't drive properly. And the gear selector indicator on the dashboard started flickering and disappeared.

I restarted the car which temporarily fixed the problem, and then it came back again.

After leaving it off overnight, next morning the car won't switch on. And the gear selector is showing Reverse, or it doesn't show any gear selection at all.

Yes there was also a check engine light.

I checked the code scanner, and it says P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL input).

I paid for a brand new Auto Neutral Safety Power Switch Control from eBay Sydney. It is on its way.

I pray that it is nothing major.

Clearing the code using code scanner didn't fix the issue.

I would think it would be an easy fix and I replace it by myself. It must be underneath the battery, on top of transmission oil pan housing.

You're correct. It's under the battery. I hope this video on replacing it helps.
