Hello scotty so i bought a sonata 2010 176,000 mileage automatic transmission, not scanned from a private seller after one month of driving i realized that it has a transmission slipping on the highways but in the city it shifts perfect, i went to Hyundai to ask them they told me i need a new transmission.. whats ur advice what should i do
thank u so much
Fix the leak.
then i noticed that it’s leaking
Check the fluid level.
Check the vent tube.
The dealership just wants to make as much money as possible on the job with as little effort as possible. It needs to be scanned for transmission-related codes. Take it to a good independent transmission shop and have it diagnosed. (Not a chain shop, stay away from Firestone, Pep Boys, Midas, etc.)
What you can do yourself is check the fluid level to make sure it's not low. Also check condition of the fluid - is it burnt or gritty? (This should have been revealed with a pre-purchase inspection.) If trans fluid has not been changed for a very long time, if ever, it's a good bet the transmission is toast.
As a last resort you can try some Lucas transmission additive. This should be a last resort. It is, at best, a temporary band-aid and may not work at all.

what should i do
I recommend you get rid of it ASAP and buy an old used Camry or Accord with the proceeds from this vehicle.
Do not throw good money after bad on any old, high mileage Hyundai (or Kia).
try getting a second opinion, but they're probably right.
Always test drive cars on the highway.
Make certain that you have not overfilled the transmission. Too little fluid is bad, too much fluid is bad. *Most* automatic transmissions that I have seen require being checked when the car is at running temperature, and *usually* right after switching slowly through each gear from 1>other gears if available>D>N>R>P.
To be more specific in this, manual or automatic? Make/Model/Year/2 or 4 wheel drive (if applicable)/Engine?
transmission slipping on the highways
The transmission is worn out. I think you're lucky your Hyundai lasted this long.
It's time to start thinking about a (non Korean) replacement vehicle.
