Scotty I Found a 1994 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 it has 201,000 miles on it the price is $2,000 is it worth it?
How does it run? Is the body or frame rusting out? 2k isnt much but that's also a 30 year old truck.
The seller says it runs well the body has some rust on it but it looks better then I expected.
Request to test drive it, when the engine and everything is cold, not already warmed up.
That price gives you room to fix a lot of problems, but you can assume that it has a lot of problems. There’s a reason they’re selling it… find out what that reason is (and not just what they say) and why so cheap.
Spend a couple hundred for an experienced mechanic to do a thorough inspection. If everything is fixable, then go for it.
The seller says it runs well
Don't believe anything the seller tells you. Have the truck checked out by a good mechanic before buying it. However, since it's pre-OBD2 you may find it a little difficult to find a mechanic willing to work on it. (Also something to consider if you would not be servicing it yourself if purchased.) Certainly if the frame is rusted through you'll want to run away.
Although Chevrolet light-duty trucks were built a lot better back then than today a lot of things can go wrong with that much age and mileage. An inexpensive 30-year-old truck can turn into an endless money pit very quickly.
