I have A1999 Dodge Dakota Sport 4x4 Automatic with 160000 miles
When truck sits for a while and the battery dies and I go to start it not realizing that the battery is dead so it just clicks and then I have to jumpstart it it starts right up but immediately dies unless I hold the gas down I have to press the brake and the gas and shifted into drive and then drive around for a little bit while staying on the gas and then it will stay running otherwise it shuts off over and over again every time I try to restart it after having a dead battery what would cause this is this normal
Test the alternator. It's probably toast.

am able to leave truck idle with all accessories on a few times I have checked battery voltage before going to start and found that battery was dead so I jumped it and truck started no problems this issue only happens after I've tried to start truck with a dead battery

Battery is good truck has aftermarket alarm and stereo system if left a week or more battery is dead
Pull the fuses for stereo and alarm, and see if the battery still dies

What is the system voltage while running?

MMJoe has your answer. The alternator cannot provide enough juice to charge a dead battery and run all the electronic systems in your vehicle at the same time.
The issue does not happen tho if I check battery voltage before starting and find it below 11 volts and connect jumper cables before trying to start then it will start up and stay running it only stalls if I try to start it with a dead battery first then jumpstart it after
Yes, what the last two said. Also find Scotty's video on isolating the fuse that's sucking power. I think he had an amp meter or tester on the battery and just pulled fuses one by one until there was a drop in the reading.
I don't think you guys are understanding if the battery is dead and I try to start the truck with a dead battery it obviously will not start if after I have tried to start it with a dead battery I jump start it with jumper cables it will die if I check the battery and find the battery dead before I try to start it and then hook up jumper cables and then start it it starts and stays running the issue is not the battery or the alternator I've had those things checked
The dead battery is not my concern it happens because the truck is rarely driven my concern is the stalling after needing a jump start after trying to start with a dead battery but again if I check the battery with a voltmeter before I try to start and find that the battery is dead and then I hook up jumper cables and start the truck it stays running

What I believe is happening is when I go to start it without checking battery voltage and it's dead it's flooding and that's why when I jumpstart it afterwards that it stalls out unless I press the gas
It does not stall like that unless there has been an attempt to start it with a dead battery first
