I bought an 08 Toyota Avalon a couple years back with 125k, the car has been good to my family and no serious issues and now has 166k. I never got around to maintenancing the transmission (I went on deployment). I'm home now but have to drive from California to Pensacola, FL next month. My question is should I change the filter & fluid or just the fluid? Thank you Sir ✊.

I just changed my own ATF last week on my 09 Highlander with 143K, pretty sure it was never done, so I was a bit nervous if 'it was too late'. I did a simple drain and fill and it went smoothly. I think it shifts better and more smooth, could just be in my head as there were no problems before. But it all worked out and i'm sure I added more years to the tranny. I'd say go ahead, just save the old fluid in case it starts going bonkers on ya.
