Hi Scotty, first off, I love your content and I'm grateful for you and the information you provide.
A couple years ago I purchased a used 2013 Dodge Dart limited with a 6 spd manual transmission. It has just over 160k miles and a 1.4 ltr turbo charged 4 cylinder engine.
The one issue that I cannot seem to find a solution to is that sometimes when I come to a stop or make a hard turn, there is a poof of smoke coming from the engine bay. It smells almost like after you put out a candle but also like burning oil.
I have noticed that my turbo is louder than when I bought it and it has decreased performance too. I had a new valve cover gasket installed after purchase as well as two new transaxle seals.
The mechanic said that one of the zip ties had come loose from my turbo boot and that he replaced it with a high quality metal one and I've checked the area around my turbo and can't find any loose fittings.
I've researched this exact issue online and it seems to be very common for my car and yet no one has the answer to the cause nor cure. Please help!
Thank you, Pat Braae
Realize two things one they don't make them all anymore and it's really a Fiat. I'm not a fan of those things they wear out fast but do check for leaky valve cover gaskets and perhaps put some UV dye in the engine oil and then if you see green dye coming out you know that's the particular thing that's leaking causing smoke
