What region of the world do you hail from?  For scan tools in general, couple things.  Make sure you bought from an authorized dealer of the tool and not getting a knockoff.  Sometimes the companies sell direct and other times they rely on a dealer network, but no matter you want to buy from an authorized dealer to make sure you are getting an authentic device and after-sale support (including technical).  Then, realize, scan tools are usually designed for a specific market in the world.  For example with Autel, you can buy scan tools for the North American market not sold elsewhere in the world, and vice versa.  If you buy a tool meant for another market, you won’t be able to get software updates or technical support from the company.  Buyer beware!

.

Aside from that, assuming you bought the tool from an authorized dealer I would contact the manufacturer of the tool to ask if the tool supports the Toyota Prado.  The manufacturer will usually provide support if you bought from an authorized dealer.
.

Getting the proper scan tool for an import can be a tricky thing.

it was an Autel MaxiCOM MK908 , do you think i should get one of these, or will it be no good for jamaica ,.

Autel makes great scan tools.  I would contact their customer service and let them know what you are trying to do and how to go about getting an Autel scan tool in your region of the world from a certified dealer.

.

See this page for contact details:

I did a quick search for compadible vehicles . Land Cruiser is listed for engine and transmission but when I search for the Prado isn't listed so I'm not 100% sure it work or not. What is your price range for a scan tool. I can look around and see what I find. I'm just not 100% sure if it will work.

Did you check the obd port to make sure it isn't bad. You might just have corrosion, broken wire or pin.

that's an import isn't it

She is indeed a import

then a Japanese tool is needed. Totally different system. This is why I tell people not to import cars.

Hello, Thank you for getting back to me , yes it's an import, but i don't know where from,
I found a garage that had a scanner to read the prado, and it was an Autel MaxiCOM MK908 , do you think i should get one of these, or will it be no good for jamaica ,. Alex.
