Hi Scottie. Thanks for your expertise, and your enthusiastic youtube vids.

I have a 2013 4WD Toyota Tundra 4.6L 32 valve w auto trans w 180K miles driven in the state of Maine. Truck runs fine, incl 4WD. Seller replaced the truck bed. I bought it in 2023 for $14 as 2nd owner w 166K miles on it. Last week I had $1,500 in repairs done, inc welding exhaust, horn clock spring, rodent nest removal from engine fuse box, etc. My long-time mechanic says I have a leaking power steering rack est $4,750 to replace. He warned me that pulling the engine to replace the steering rack can bring about other issues that could increase repair costs. Your thoughts... should i sell the Tundra and get a different used truck?

The current condition of your truck is what's most important. If the steering rack is all that's wrong, everything else is in very good condition, fix and keep. Start by taking it somewhere else for diagnosis and estimate. Your price is twice what it should cost. That shop's quote is absurd.

Well maintained trucks bring top dollar because of the price of a new truck. If engine and transmission are good on your truck (otherwise good condition) I'd fix it and drive it.
