Hey scotty

Are Turbo Diesels reliable. I have seen Toyota D4D 2kd-ftv engines going strong even after 150,000 miles. What is your opinion.

I am not an expert of European engines but I believe that is a 1.4 Turbo Diesel Toyota made and can be found in the Corolla? If it is that one then those are excellent engines. @g-t is in Europe he might be able to clarify.

2KD-FTV is 2.5L one

@g-t
Thanks! I see it is used in the Hilux and Fortuner which from my understanding are extremly reliable vehicles similar to how the Tacoma/4runner are reliable vehicles in the US.

Toyota D-4D engines have legendary reliability. I have seen them running past 1,000,000 kms still with the original engine internals. They are truly indestructible.

Other manufacturers, it’s on a case to case basis. I wouldn’t trust Italian turbo diesels to last very long.

You probably mean 2.5D-4D.

Perhaps this site will give you more insight about reliability (Click there).

Common Rail need good quality fuel otherwise give problems, breaking fuel pump etc. Prior generations (non direct injection) are bulletproof (Toyota, Mercedes, VW etc)
