Two 2021 Tundra AC noise issues

Topic starter
  1. 2021 Tundra Crew Max 31k miles automatic 5.7L V8 2wd. The first time each day that the AC is turned on, it makes a loud clunk sound. It only does it one time, the first time after sitting for a day or two.
  2. It also has an intermitant clanking nose that doesn't happen all the time (and is not evenly rhythmic), but it only happens when the AC clutch is engaged. When the clutch stops, the noise stops. Each time the clutch engages the sound resumes. I'd be happy to send a video of this noise.

Please make a YouTube video of the noise and post the link here, thanks.

Both are possibly the ac compressor on its way out. You're still under warranty, bring it in and have Toyota look into it.

Thank you for the comment. We did take it to Toyota, they didn't find the issue or fix anything. They replaced the tensioner and that did nothing. We are 4000 miles from being out of warranty. This issue has been floating around on the Tundra forums with many people having the same noise on start up, but I've found no solutions given.

We are 4000 miles from being out of warranty.

Ask around the price of a brand new OEM compressor and if the part will be covered under an extended warranty from Toyota (not 3rd party).

Also, get it in writing from the dealership that they acknowledged the noise/issue, but couldn’t fix it.

Lastly, write to Scotty along with a link to your YouTube video with the noise and ask him nicely to highlight your issue in one of his YouTube videos, to apply some pressure on Toyota, to set the ball rolling.

All the best!
