Tyco Wipers at Safelite?

Last week, gravel from a paving truck hit windshield of my 2018 RAV-4 XLE. It left a starlike crack larger than a quarter. I made a claim through USAA to Safelite to see if they can repair the crack at no cost to me. Safelite also wanst to sell me a pair of Tyco wipers at $26.99 each. I probably need the wipers, but is this a good deal? (the car is garaged most of the time).

Note: My wife witnessed the cracking and took a photo of the truck and its license plate. I left a voice mail with the trucking company about filing a claim.  What do you folks do when you get windshield damage while on the road? My deductible is $500, which will be used if the repair doesn't work and USAA has to replace the windshield. I have no trouble suing the trucking company (two counties over, same state) in small claims court should it come to that.

oops. I think my notes say "Trico" wiper blades. I just checked them out at Discount Tire online: $12 for the 26" + $12 for the 16". That Safelite deal is 2 times that! (Assuming the same blade). Note that USAA now sends you automatically to Safelite Solutions when you call in with a windshield issue.

First, get in touch with your insurance carrier, explain the situation and follow their instructions.

I've never heard of Tyco.

My deductible for windshield is $200. I've never caught anybody in the act.

He hrobably means Trico wiper blades. Tyco makes toy trucks.

Just go to Walmart and get Rain-X wipers, you can get a pair for roughly the same out, maybe a few bucks more.

I had the windshield in my 1999 Ranger replaced for free by Safelite on my insurance policy this past August. There were multiple tiny chips after I drove behind a dump truck on the highway. I didn't notice anything was wrong until the light caught a big one just right a few months later. It had grown and was starting to become a hairline crack. I'm insured by Progressive. I have comprehensive and collision coverage, I'm surprised you don't have that on a much newer car, or USAA isn't great insurance. I pay $135 for 3 cars, 2 have full coverage. Glass is free on Progressive full coverage policies.

I pay $135 for 3 cars

{black}:amazed:

that's the cost to put basic insurance on one car for a month here!

@mmj - He probably drives 25 miles per year to get that rate.

@mmj that's crazy. It's probably partly because my truck is listed as my daily driver and not my Mustang. My record's completely clean as well. I put maybe 3000 miles on the Mustang in the last year. I put around 12k-13k miles a year on my truck. Progressive knows that, too. My rate actually went up $30 because I moved, I was paying $103 a month for the same insurance before doing so. I wasn't happy about that, then realized I'm paying less for 3 cars than my girlfriend's one car (EcoBoost Mustang). She has a speeding ticket on her record.

yep, clean record, maximum driver discount. Distance driven doesn't really matter here unless you only use it for church on sundays. We are being bent over the barrel. That's what happens when there's only one company in town and they have a monopoly and are in bed with the government.
When nobody is looking , they run a chop shop in the back, and sell licenses to rich foreigners. Yep that's our regulated nation. When you are entitled to a payout from them, they nickel and dime you. Criminals in power.
