Used blazer idle and start up problem

Hi Scotty,

I was given a 95 chevy blazer LT automatic with 122k miles. No lights on the dash are on. But every time I start the engine it takes a few seconds to start the engine. Also when it idles the rpm will drop from 1100 to 600 and it sounds like it wants to turn off sometimes. It doesn't have a port to hook up to a computer to check it's systems. I don't know much about the history of the blazer. My guess it could be fuel pump and/or starter causing these problems. But I'm not certain. So before I give up money for diagnostics iwanted to ask you before I spent money on a mechanic to check it out if there is anything I can do myself to solve these symptoms before it gets serious.

Thanks,

George

Sure it has a OBD1 port - LOOK harder.  Also the hunting of the idle may be a defective IAC motor on the throttle.  As for fuel pump problems...it would not had started up if it had. if in doubt check the fuel pressure but those do not have a tap to check built in. You would have to tee in between the fuel filter and throttle body.  As for the Blazer...you have to ask yourself how much money to sink in before I pull the plug on it.  Right now if the engine is not knocking or smoking and fires up...It's worth keeping.
