Wondering if I could get some help over this. I recently bought a used Honda fit 2008 that came with 195/55/15 tires mounted on 5" rims. I only realized this about a month after i bought it when i was getting some air topped up over at the gas station.
Would the larger width tire cause any issues? I typically only drive in the city and do not drive fast. I also only have a year left with the car before I would have to dispose of it.
Thanks for all the help!
Probably not, except on wet or slippery surfaces. The intended contact pattern is off with the narrow wheel.
Tire Rack says that if you have 15" rims, the factory put on 195s. 175s are put on 14 inch rim. Call them and they can tell you about rim width if they are not factory rims.If you want wider tires, they can help you with that too.
I think the previous owner messed with the tire and the rim. He put on a 15" rim that has a 5" width and managed to wangle a 195/55/15 tire on it. Considering its a used car.. i don't think the factory would help
The wider tires on a narrow rim means the tire geometry is messed up and they will wear out much faster than if the were on a proper width rim.
Would it cause any other concerns other than wear?
