Used RAV4 what to look for?

I'm looking at a used 2004 automatic transmission Toyota Rav4 with 197,000km. Seems REALLY low mileage for a car that the owner is asking just $3000 Aussie dollars for.

Is there anything I need to be concerned about such as timing belt replacements, transmission problems or anything else at this mileage?

I haven't yet seen the car yet, but I've been told it's a maroon one with clearcoat peeling off on most panels. I don't really care about the paintwork, so that's not really an issue.

I've also been told that the driver window goes up and down slowly and seems to have some issues. Is this easy to fix?

We own an EV for 90% of our driving around town so will just use the rav4 for weekends and camping trips relatively close. We don't plan on putting a ton of miles on it. We just want it for the space for camping gear and eskys etc and ability to drive further than our EV for little getaways.

Thoughts??

Thanks for your help!!

Thanks,

Nick

If you've owned car before in your life, hop in and see how it feels and reacts, if you like how she goes.

Hi Nick,

Seems to be a good deal but be cautious.

This model has timing chain, so you typically should not worry about its replacement if the oil was changed regularly. For the 4 cylinders, you need to look for oil burning. If it is AWD, check out the AWD system, I personally would not buy an old/high mileage AWD vehicle since they become money pits.

And finally, do not expect to have a great gas mileage for that car.

Good luck.
