- Scotty , I have a 98 Ranger 4.0 liter . I have a thumping noise coming from heater core in dash . T.S.B. says fords have problem with thumping from dash . I changed water pump , still thumping . Water pump dosn't pump enough volume of water causing steam which makes the thump . What can I do ? Thanks , Big Al

Did you check to make sure the belt isn't loose? If the belt is slipping over the water pump pulley it could result in a lack of flow. Additionally, maybe try a heater core flush.
