Used Volvo maybe a money pit?

I bought a 2012 Volvo S60 t5 at the dealership 4-5 months ago. Got a fantastic deal for the market, paid 12k and it had 55k miles. In the past 3 months I’ve had to put thousands into it. Serpentine belt blew on highway, needed tow truck. Coil packs, spark plugs, ignition coils replaced. Now it is throwing a code for fuel regulator issues. I replaced the sensor and code came right back. Also, it is freezing where I’m at right now in the east coast, is that why my shifts are delayed? Or do you think my transmission is going? I don’t want to keep it if these issues persist. Any thoughts? 


What codes are you getting all together?


P0089, P0191, P0089 again. Replaced fuel pressure sensor. Cleared codes. Came back in 20 minutes. Also, she burns a quart of oil every 3 ish weeks. Sometimes half a quart. I got <profanity removed by mod>, well more like I have <profanity removed by mod> myself.

These are regular maintenance items:

  • Serpentine belt
  • Spark plug
  • Coil packs/ignition coils

On some makes and models, these are relatively cheap for labor, others may need have layers upon layers of stuff on top of what needs changing, thus increasing the labor charge.  

Belts and spark plugs are cheap.  But coil pack parts pricing can be expensive, especially if you go OEM, and especially for European cars.  

So if these were your only problems, I wouldn’t think it is an endless money pit, just a bit on the expensive side.

Now with your transmission and fuel regulator, that may be a different story.

Do you have any codes being thrown?

As Kaizen said, much of those items were regular maintenance. There is more to a car than mileage, and at 10 years old those things are pretty common to wear out.
