Got a friend with a 02 Chevy Silverado picup the heater core is leaking all is well it gets hot as normal but the leak . Here goes its $978.00 to change covid excuse
I had an idea do you think i can hook up a hot water external pump and using a mix of block glass run it thru the core NOT THE ENGIN let it do its seal thing dump the rest out flush . This is a neat idea if you think about it to pull the dash out is a mess. with the hot water pump (add of for water heaters over long distances)
I mean its just a thought if it works wow you can get a pump off amazon for 48 bucks. i guess you can use hot water some copper tube and a heat gun for additional heat
or is this a far fetched idea?
Not far fest at all I used to sell just external heater core as you could stick under the glove box and put a fan behind them if you wanted to
Are you joking? The new heater core from O'Reilly costs $41.99. Where is the other $936 going to?
Probably labor. On all too many vehicles you have to rip the whole dashboard out to replace the heater core.
heater core replacements often end up looking like this

Yikes - glad that mine is accessible under the hood along with the blower, evaporator, and expansion valve! 😉
You are probably right, Chuck.
I like redneck idea...... use copper tubing and place heater coil on top or in front of dash as long it have a fan on it.
basically, same thing done to my beater c3500 with 200k miles on it and heater quit.
