I just bought a 2012 Jetta Sportwagen 2.5L at 80,000 miles for 7 grand, bone stock. Is the Volkswagen 5 cylinder a reliable engine/transmission setup? What is your experience with them? What is your advice for making this car stay alive another 10 years. I drive a lot of miles, ideally this is my road trip vehicle as well as my daily driver.

Volkswagen quality is known to be sub-par. Unless you plan on spending a pretty penny replacing parts, that car is not going to go another 10 years. They just don't hold up over time.
