Depends on the overall condition, although the manual transmission can outlast the automatic transmission, especially in Volvos.

I've had family members who have had both, and I have driven them. Both have their advantages, but I would definitely go with the 240, both because it is a robust classic, and because it is a manual. One of the major obstacles with Volvos is getting parts, and I imagine that in Kenya this might be even more of a problem. I'd look into this on some of the Volvo owner forums = here again, the 240 was built for many years, so parts might be a little easier to find.
