Has anybody used a fuel additive by VP Racing Fuels called "Powerboost"? I was on their website and it looks like they have some nice products. Just wondering if anybody has experience using this (or any of their stuff). Is this snake oil?
it's an octane booster. Just buy premium fuel (if your engine can even use it).
VP Racing Fuels makes excellent racing fuels. Which makes sense. But everything else, I'd just do as @MountainManJoe said: get premium fuel and pass on the additives.
There are tons of detergents in fuels today, even regular grade fuels if you are running anything top tier rated. With premium fuel, you're getting the best burn you're likely going to get in most cars.
Now...if you have a track purposed vehicle that is built and tuned for it, VP's high octane race fuels burn very well and are their namesake. But they are expensive like most purpose-built things in life and have a very specific application.
I don't recommend octane boosters. Think about it like this: you're adding in one bottle to a full, let's just say, 16 gallon tank of fuel. The odds that everything will mix and perfectly distribute in the tank are miniscule at best. With a full 16 gallons of premium, you have a much better mix and higher quality detergents too. Really it's a no brainer.
