Hey, saw your video on worst-best euro cars & what you said about VW dual clutch transmission being crappy. My question is about the 6-speed auto being a good or crappy transmission? I really want to get a vw tdi & I want my girl to be able to drive it as well.

The NON dual clutch REGULAR automatics are decent. They’re either built by ZF or Toyota (AISIN),

but don’t expect them to last over 120,000 miles they will usually develop serious issues by them.

If you are going to keep long term and put lots of mileage on it well beyond 100,000 miles I would seriously consider getting something else.

VW does make excellent diesel engines. If that has the Aisin 6 speed, it’ll raise the reliability of the car by a few notches.

Realise that having said all of the above, it’s still a VW which means lots of cheap plastic parts & over-engineering which will come to bite you in the long run.

Know what you’re getting into, before you pull the trigger.
