shops will sell but not install a battery in my 2010 VW Golf. Manual says dealer needs to set computer or something. If I maintain power to battery cables during removal of old battery, can I replace battery myself?
I replaced mine on my 2012 Golf TDI a few years back, no issues that I recall. And, I believe the parts place (O'Rileys) installed it too. No maintaining power or anything. From what I've read, it looks like if you get weird lights in the dash after doing it just drive it so the computer can reset. I'd ask a trusted mechanic if it is really necessary.
If you do a lot of work on your car, you might consider getting VAGCOM if you have not already. I use it every time I replace my fuel filter to prime it just to be safe and is real handy on diagnosing stuff. But mines a diesel and it seems like there are tons of things you have to be careful about or youll have major problems. I bought it before I discovered Scotty lol....otherwise I would have went a different direction!
I don't see why not.
