Just a quick question since I'm having trouble finding this info.
My car uses a 2L NA I4 petrol engine (dubbed the 2.slow by VW enthusiasts) which uses a rubber timing belt. Is this engine an interference engine? I may be due for a timing belt change soon.

Yes it is an interference engine. I would change the timing belt now if it is due.
