Transmission dipstick level

Hey Scotty and everyone,

I have a 1986 f150 4.9L with a C6 automatic transmission (I think). I changed the fluid, but i'm a little confused on the dipstick meanings. It says "Check level when engine hot and in park and idling. Do not add if in between arrows". Now, the fluid level is at an 1/8th mark into the arrows...will this hurt the transmission or do i have to drain it until the top "add" mark?

(I'm kind of new to this website so idk how to add pictures >.<)

Dipstick represented in text (bold showing fluid level):  [   <==== :  add   : <-----> : Do not add between arrows. Leave in park...   ]

If you put in new fluid don't drain it again. That is how it could go bad. You can add a little bit more but only a little bit like maybe a few drops. You could sneak up upon it by doing little by little until you've reached your mark.

Yes, but this was a follow up post from when i mentioned earlier that idk if the previous owner put the right fluid in or not (he said he changed it but it has hard time shifting). And...the question is asking...where is the full mark on the dipstick? Is it at the top of the add mark or is the full mark between the arrows?

"Do not add if in between arrows"

is it between the arrows?

you can use any image hosting site or app, such as postimages.org or imgur.com
Simply paste the image URL into your post.

Yes, but only at the lower 1/8th mark

"do not add if in between arrows"
{black}:idontknow:

like this

when the level is where it says "ADD" (between the holes), then you need to add some.

when the level is between arrows (like yours) , you do nothing

if it's above the arrows, then you've put too much.

no need to overthink it

Ahh oki that's what that means
thank you so much ^^

You're welcome. Good luck with your truck 🙂
