Scotty, was the 1976-79 Buick Opel a decent car back in the day? It's my understanding that it was actually manufactured in Japan by Isuzu.

Yes it was by Isuzu and it wasn't the best. Good luck finding parts for that car because there won't be many available.

They were not as well-regarded by enthusiasts as the earlier German-made Opels such as the Manta 1900. The change to Isuzu was made primarily due to unfavorable exchange rates with Germany that was causing the price of German-made Opels to skyrocket. This also gave GM a "me too" Japanese-made car to sell at a time when sales of Japanese cars were really taking off. They were OK cars but as has been noted parts will likely be a real problem.
