[Solved] washer fluid in the engine coolant reservoir

Topic starter

I accidentally added windshield wiper fluid in the engine coolant reservoir. I plan to: a) not start the engine b) pump out the coolant reservoir c) refill reservoir with proper coolant. Then can I drive the car as usual or should I get the coolant system flushed and refilled with proper coolant?

If you didn't drive it you should be OK to just empty the reservoir and fill it up with proper coolant.

Thanks JVin. I kind of panicked after realizing the blunder. My new rule is to not talk on the phone while doing stuff under the hood.

washer fluid is mostly water so it's not then end of the world. in fact washer fluid usually contains a bit of antifreeze too. Change what's in the reservoir and you'll be fine.

Not the end of the world. I'd just flush the system out, you can do it with water from a hose. And honestly it's usually good to flush the heater core anyway
