Hi guys I am going to replace the water pump on my 1990 454ss Chevy truck and I just wanted to know if anyone knew if we have to disconnect the battery during this process ? I heard from some people you have to and other haven’t really explained if you have to or not

I disconnected the battery when doing mine on my Honda Accord 1999.
I’m not a professional mechanic, but it seems like a good idea to do so. Just in case their are any loose connections that may accidentally short circuit while you are working on the engine.

It is NOT necessary to disconnect the battery to change out a water pump.
