So get ready, this is pretty weird and i need some help on what to do. my friend took my car out awhile back and took it from 60mph to 1st gear, it did some damage but wasnt to major as the car ran for 4 months until the headgasket blew, took apart the motor pulled the valve train cover off, and we noticed i had 4 rockers that were off, we found them no scoring on the cams or rockers, rockers also appear to be fine, but here comes my other problem, i cant seem to find what its called all i have found so far was top hat valve shims, they sit under the rockers its a little cap, we found all 4 rockers but we cannot find the 4 caps, the motor appears to be fine pulled the head off no knicks on the piston so it couldnt have fell in there we checked all passages and cant find them, pulled my oil pan and oil filter and still cannot find them.. Kind of worrying since they are steel and can get knocked around inside the motor but its also been 4 months so it shouldve happened by now, the only reason the car started acting up more is because the headgasket blew. We looked at my vavles and they do not look bent, so were confused on how the rockers were able to get out. were going to be inspecting the bottom end before repairing everything to make sure we do not see the caps, but were can i find the caps and what are they called? the closet thing ive found is top hat vavle shims, or cap vavle stems, with the part number 13716 from toyata. with no picture tho. Can anyone tell me why the rockers fell off where do you think the caps went in the motor? and will everything be fine to put back together? again there is no scoring, on the cam nor the rockers, they are smooth and appear to be fine. everything else in the motor appears to be fine which is amazing and kinda of worrying at the same time...
i dont see why you gotta be like that as you can see it was not me that did this so dont act like im dumb, i know not do rev my car into the moon. its quite common sense. i asked what i should do about it since im stuck with the problems you dont gotta act like i was being dumb and just sent my car to the moon it is not what happened. itd be nice if i can get a answer and not someone being smart for no reason.

Well you see, when you race the engine to 60mph in 1st gear, the engine is spinning at orbital launch velocity, and it turns into a big shrapnel grenade. So in case the horrendous noise didn't give it away, these are the kind of things you can expect to happen when you do that. This is not what Scotty means when he says "Rev up your engines."
I know why the rockers fell off, the vavles shouvle bent. they did not. thats why i am asking, i did not do this my friend did he took my car without permission and i coudlnt stop him he felt like he knew how to drive and did not. my question was will the motor be ok to put it back together considering there is no major damage that is visible. i also asked what the caps are called i cannot find a exact name on them. and i need them as they are just gone and no where to be found in my motor.

Since the engine overheated you will need to rebuild the top end.
The 2AR-FE engine has aluminum heads so you'll need to get those machined (aluminum warps). The engine block is aluminum too , so maybe that'll need to be resurfaced as well.
I think the parts you're referring to are called lash caps, but you're going to need a whole head kit anyway. Your so called friend just cost you a great deal of time and money. I would disown the clown.
Disowned, his dad had a garage that also did body work on my car, ended up fixing with zipties, i blasted them everywhere along w pictures, thank you, you dont have any worrys that the lash caps are gone? no need to worry about it getting chewed apart and causing more damage when the motor is back together? we havent found them anywhere they are just gone, i slightly feel like they were already chewed apart i just feel like i would see more heavy damage from it.
Little update thought it would be nice and its pretty intresting, motors back together and everything is all good the head wasnt warped everything was good, 4 rockers flew off and 4 vavle shim caps fell off, but the motor is fine which is amazing.. the motor runs better then ever, no check engine after putting everything together, no weird sounds or nothing. im a little amazed considering 4 of my rockers and caps were just rolling around in my motor for a few months, and didnt do anything.
