Hey scotty, my clutch makes a weird almost metal to metal grinding sound mostly when I engage it uphill and sometimes in levelled ground. It doesn’t normally happen, only when it’s hard for the car or on the engine to move. Is it the clutch wearing out? It’s a mazda 3 2005 1.6 diesel with 144000 km (90000 miles).

Is it the clutch wearing out?
I'd say the odds are pretty high.

Yes. It's probably either the throw out bearing or the pilot bearing are worn out. Or the disc is so far gone you're running on the rivets to the flywheel.
Should I have it checked right away or should I fix it when it breaks? 😅

If you enjoy walking, wait until it breaks. I would get it fixed, these don't get better by themselves.
