I’m currently having issues shifting, can’t seem to drive past 3rd gear, car would tend to overheat at times and it sometimes kill on me when parked or at stops signs. curious to know what could be the cause of these

Manual or automatic transmission?
Automatic transmission
ok, and which lights do you see?
That one and the check engine light

First step is run a diagnostic scan on the vehicle. That should provide more information about the problem.
I have and it showed a code 4f27e fn4a transmission solenoids c,d,e
ok these things are usually beyond home mechanic skills, so I would take it to a transmission shop.
