Grandfather passed in December 2021 but hadn't driven his dodge intrepid for at least six months before that. I told them to at least drive the car twice a month for like 30 minutes on the highway which I think was done when he was alive and couldn't drive anymore, but I seriously think it has not been done or even started since he passed in December 2021. Now, his house and everything is finally being sold. As far as I know, the car drove fine, but no one can remember the last time anyone started it or drove it.
Anyone have tips and thoughts on the procedure for starting and driving the car? it's been sitting in the garage this entire time.
I was thinking of just doing an oil and filter change, siphoning out any gas and putting in new gas, charging the battery off the car or putting a new one and seeing how it does? thoughts? thanks
Cross your fingers and have a fire extinguisher handy.
that's me after I put something back together 😆
Remove the plugs then spray some lube into each cylinder & crank the engine over by hand a few revolutions with a breaker bar on the crank bolt. This will help remove any surface rust/prevent snapping a ring.
After be sure to change the oil.
Then do a full tune-up, flush the coolant, flush the brake fluid, change the tranny fluid (not flush, just filter & what's in the pan) & make sure to check all the hoses/lines.
