What do you wish car makers would do (or not do) for upcoming vehicles?

We've had cars features we love, and car features we hate.  Things in the engine bay that we love, and things in the engine bay that we hate.  Things about design we love, and things about design we hate.  What do you wish care makers would do (or not do) for upcoming vehicles?

Get rid of the auto stop feature.  Whoever came up with that idea should put down the bong.  Get rid of electronic throttle control.  A cable works just fine and doesn't require electrical current, wires, a rheostat under your foot or a little electric motor to open and close the throttle plate.  More and better manual transmissions.  Most of us have a left leg and want to use it.  Spark plugs that are accessible without removing the entire intake system of the motor would be thoughtful. Get rid of tire pressure monitoring. Build a pickup truck that has a bed big enough to carry something more than a picnic cooler, and make one with a regular cab - please!

I think we can all agree on getting rid of the electronic parking brake! I mean seriously, why in the world did we go from a fun hand/foot lever to an annoying little button that engages the parking brake (automatically too sometimes)?! They had to make such a simple setup complex.

This is more of a preference, but I just can't stand digital gauge clusters. I'm okay with having a small screen in the middle that displays important information, but I prefer seeing the actual needles powered by stepper motors. My cars do not have one, but when I drove one with a digital cluster there were times when the sun's glare made it hard to see.

I like the infotainment systems, but I feel like they can become a bigger distraction than your phone honestly lol. On my brother's scatpack, you have to go through a few menus just to access the climate controls lol. Doing that while driving is kind of risky.

I agree, I much prefer the needle than a digital readout. I'd even accept a video representation of the needle cluster rather than a straight digital readout.

Electronic parking brake first of all and:

why oh why would you have a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation and auto star stop w/ GDi and a turbocharger. Just why? Pare it with a 10 speed dual clutch and you have got the ultimate quality. We know how that goes...

Haha! That's all the terrible stuff combined onto one terrible engine itself lol! That wouldn't even last 1k miles lol.

@razming
Judging that Kia/Hyundai/FCA cars have engines blow up sometimes at 6 7k miles I think that it could literally blow up at 1000 miles tops. Shows the quality and priorities of auto manufacturers today.

The Crazy lane assist thing.  You try to go into another lane and the car starts freaking out even when there are no cars around you.

Create a system that makes it to where cell phones can not be used unless the vehicle is in park, an impact is detected, or BlueTooth hands free is being utilized.

If you need GPS, set it while in park.

buttons. I hate buttons and menus. Make knobs great again.

Agreed on the knobs!!! I hate the touch screen operation. With knobs, I can just feel it.

preach!

I would like to see cars go back to regular keys. I’m ok with chip keys, but wireless fobs and push button starting can be problematic and expensive when they have hiccups

I wish that all that technology nowadays cars have, would last at least 15 years, just like old cars do/did.
