The Mercedes Bluetec engines are pretty cool. I talked to a mechanic who said they burned so clean that he could work on them with the shop doors and windows closed. They are also smooth, quiet, and have fantastic highway range.
HOWEVER, all those emissions gadgets don’t maintain themselves. Longevity is not great, and repairs are $$$. Long term costs are very high, and if the previous owner didn’t take good care of it, it will quickly become the proverbial “endless money pit”.
Bottom line: nice car with a nice power train. But don’t confuse it with the old Mercedes diesels that would run forever.

Lease one and get it out of your system, but if you really wanted to buy that car, make sure you buy extended bumper to bumper warranty and when it ends, sell the car.

Don’t buy it outside of the warranty period, or if you do get the extended warranty from Mercedes (don’t settle for a third party warranty).  Normally it’s best to just lease and return before the warranty expires.

Also, see below regarding Mercedes:

I wouldn't recommend it unless you have repair funds set aside and can also afford the Benz extended warranty plan.

Going to say it not the engine that cause a problem.. it everything around it in these cars.
