I'm looking at some amp clamps that are on sale for black friday. I tried to find the videos scotty did about them but I couldn't. I noticed some do AC only an others do both AC/DC. I'm guessing to work on cars, I need one that does both since cars use both right? Also how many amps rating and how many counts do I need? also how do I know it'll fit with my DMM? are they largely universal?

Cars operate only on DC. The "charging whirler" (alternator) generates alternating current internally of course but that is rectified by on-board diodes to DC before going into the car's electrical system.
I have a self-contained inductive ammeter but it's only good for relatively high amperage, like checking the current draw of starters, HVAC fans, or electric cooling fans.
It's not just a clamp it's a complete dedicated meter, you press the whole thing against a cable to see how many amps are being drawn.
You can also get combination DMM current clamps.
You mean like what he said?

All clamps measure AC. Only some do DC and they're more expensive. Cars use DC. AC is what's in your wall socket.
how many amps rating and how many counts do I need?as much as you can afford.

universal.
