How long should I wait after starting up before shifting into gear

I have a 2012 Highlander and I wait for the rpm to drop from 1500 to 1100 before I put in in gear. My wife has a 2013 Highlander and puts it in gear whenever she wants. Am I babying it to much?

Matter of opinion, I guess.  I personally allow the engine to get to proper idle rpm before putting it in gear.  It's you transmission(s).

Just wait for the oil pressure to come up. About 30 seconds. After that, drive gently until the engine comes up to operating temp.
