Hi Scotty, I have a 2001 Peugeot 306 combi with 320 000 km ( 200 000 miles ), manual, 2.0 HDI. How much do you think it would last. I got it for 800 USD converted and it came with new tires. It's been 5 months and we changed the oil, filters, belt, and transmission fluid. We bought it from a friend, it's a family car.

If you have a Peugeot that's still running at all after 21 years, call the Guinness Book of World Records right away.

Also buy a lottery ticket!

Surprised

Exactly!

Not that special at all, Old Peugeot never die (they’re still the car of choice for rural Africa and are still made in so many developing countries)

I'm trying to think but nothing happens. (Peugeot has not been sold in the U.S. for something like 30 years now.)

It's already on borrowed time

Interesting to see people who never even drove a Peugeot suddenly decide they're bad for some reason.

Realistically the PSA DW10 engine will last as long as you're willing to maintain it, usually you'd see them go from 400,000km to 500,000km (250k miles - 320k miles). Quite a good engine, you still see them around even on modern cars.

As far as the transmissions, manuals usually don't have problems but even the automatics on these weren't bad.

Basically it only depends on maintenance and luck,

as long as you maintain and repair it, it could run maybe another year, maybe another 10.

They weren't the most solid cars out there, they do tend to need a repair time to time - but they're really not bad at all.

Trufully even more modern Peugeot-Citrëon aren't bad, It's not uncommon to see things like the C3 Picasso HDi manual go strong at over 300k miles.

There's a reason why Toyota has partnered with them so many times to build many of their cars - especially commercial ones that should last for a long time!

Impressive that it lasted that long. However, Peugeots of that time are widely regarded as junk, even Top Gear made fun of how crappy early 2000s Peugoets were.

Didn't TopGear work in association with the J.D Power survey?
The same people who say now in 2022 that Kia, Hyundai and Buick are the most reliable cars in the world!
They also recommend the Chevrolet Cruze as a "Reliability Pick" over the Civic and Mazda3.

Also the French don't know how build an average car, they're either trash or amazing.
The best and worst car I've had were built by the same company and shared a name.

I don't know anything about Top Gear working with JD Power, but Top Gear and 2000s Peugeots reminds me of this bit.
