Hey, how are you today. I am debating between a 2007 gx470 very clean and a 1999 Toyota 4Runner limited also very clean. They are both nice but they both don’t have timing belt and water pump done and both the owner won’t budge under 8,500 they both have about 238k miles just not sure what to get. What would you suggest? Thanks for your input and help.
Don't get either. That's way too much money for a 1999 4Runner or or a Lexus GX470, the 2007 is a 16-year-old car. Pass.
Were either of the timing belts done at 90k or so?
A 3rd gen 4runner at that mileage just isn't worth it.
As for the GX, if it had brand new tires of a good brand that I wanted, crazy good maintenance records, and air bags changed in the last few years, very nice paint job, maybe.
I have a 2008 GX470, and my thought is, if they guy is ignoring the timing belt for more than 120k miles or so, what other maintenance is he ignoring? If the belt breaks, it will likely damage the engine, as it is an interference engine.
I don't get that warm and fuzzy feeling from either, that is when I walk away.
So the gx470 guy has all service records and said the timing belt and water pump were good not an issue
I am very curious how he knows they are good if he never changed them. I know a timing belt can be inspected, but as far as I know, that is not a for sure judge of it's health.
I am curious to know why you voted me down, I have owned both of these vehicles, and still have the GX? I know both of them very well.
Of the 2, I would pick the GX because it is newer, but you should change the timing belt asap, as you risk it breaking until it is done.
So sorry didn’t mean to vote you down, honestly not even sure how I did that. I am trying to learn my way around the page.
