Guys,
Are flecks of metal in your oil filter normal? They're about the size of a grain of sand
2012 Mazda 3 with 171,000 miles on it. Sorry I forgot to add that

I've never seen any. And I've taken apart old oil filters to check.

No that is not normal, it sounds like there is damage to the bearings in your engine.
