So lets say I bought an old Lexus LS400 from 1991. I can't find the oil filters on the Lexus site here in the UK. In America (where you have competent people) they're still available. Which leaves us here in the UK with stupid. Asking stupid questions and getting stupid prizes. So here I go:
1. Can I use another metal screw-on filter from another car as long as the dimensions are the same?.
2. Lets say it wasn't the metal screw on type: can I fit a paper filter as long as the dimensions are the same?.
I'm sure they do it on purpose because they want all the old reliable cars off the road.
Thanks.
Which engine, please?
There are at least a dozen or so after market filters available for you car. Try Rock Auto, Parts Geek, etc.
1991 is not that old. Your oil filter appears to be widely available on sites like:
autopartspro.co.uk, autodoc.co.uk, etc..
The LS400 is code named XF10
Thanks for the replies gents. It's just that I can't get the OEM ones from the Toyota/Lexus suppliers, and on these sites I can't see the quality makes like Puralator and all that. Still, if I went ahead and bought this car I'm sure one of the makes on that site would be good enough.
