Scotty I have a cherokee xj 2000 sport 4x4 automatic transmission AW4. I have had it for 15 years, about 6 months ago the transmission was repaired and I want to do the Service. I had always done the service with ATF +4 but the mechanic tells me that he is wearing the DEXIII. I go to the agency and they tell me that it has ATF + 4 synthetic. what I do?

ATF-4 would be best as it is a full synthetic fluid. DEXIII is not synthetic and a much older fluid. Most mechanics use DEXVI at this point.
Stick with the ATF-4.
