Hey everyone! I'm watching a recent Scotty video that was filmed in the past and has a very nice looking black stingray at the intro. Below is the link to the video. Which leads me to my questions what year stingray is this and are they reliable?

It's a classic Stingray from the late 1960s or 1970s. What's your definition of reliable? They were as reliable as anything else GM made with a carburetor back in their day. If you had good spark, a properly set, clean carb and good fuel, the engine will run if you know how to work a carburetor. Will it start cold with just a key crank like a newer car? Nope. I had to learn how a carburetor car works after I bought a Pontiac that's a bit newer than that Corvette, and there's quite a learning curve. You can't just crank the key on a cold engine and start it. Gas needs to be primed into the carb by pressing the gas pedal a few times. Once you get the tricks, it's not all that hard. Is it going to be reliable like a fuel injected Toyota? Absolutely not. Will it survive an EMP and be able to start afterwards? Probably. No computers or anything to ruin, but also nothing to help keep the thing running, beyond your own mechanical instincts and knowledge. If you thought about buying one to DD, you should probably break out quite a check, those are pretty sought after, and collectible cars nowadays.
I'd recommend getting into finding a cheap classic if that car caught your interest. They are fun cars to work on and learn with. This forum has a few seasoned guys who know how they work and can help you. They helped me greatly in the past year.

No classic Stingrays are "reliable" in terms of being a daily driver. Reliable toy? They can be. But you buy the wrong one and you can bankrupt yourself on repairs.
