Howdy all, so my 1999 Toyota Camry 2.2 237k had an issue swaying when driving 50+ mph and shaking starts slightly at 35mph. The front end shakes and it drifts from left to right on the highway while steering straight. Myself and 2 other mechanics I've brought the car too couldn't figure it out.
The only old parts are a drivers side CV axle, front wheel bearings, control arms, and the intermediate shaft/rack and pinion.
There's absolutely no play in the wheels and everything's tight as can be including the control arm bushings. So what could be the issue? There's a slight wiggle in the steering shaft but I've heard that's normal and there's supposed to be minimal play.
So again. What could be causing this? The car is in immaculate mechanical condition besides this issue. I'm stumped, it apparently stumps the mechanics too.
Thanks in advance!
I've had bad tires do this. How old are the tires? Does the problem persist if you rotate them front to back?
I've had this problem persist through multiple sets of tires. So that shouldn't be the issue
