What would be the proper procedure to clean off this rust without making the car look bad? in the past ive used grit paper, shaved it off then prime and painted with matching paint on my old car but rust came back.

do you have to use some product on it then paint that?

thanks in advance

also i have some alloys rims i put on my summer tires that all are scratched up. i read online that you should not grit paper aluminum as it degrades, is that accurate? should i leave it or shave off the scratches and spray it with alloy colo?

The only way is to cut the infected part out. Any other way and the rust will come back.

its mainly only surface rust now though

If it is surface rust you should be able to grind it out. If you have done that and it came back that means you did grind enough and there was still rust you were not seeing. If the rust can't be stopped that way the next step is cutting it out and replacing the metal.

you can try rust o leum rust reformer spray.

then paint over it.

won't work forever but will last awhile.
