What's your opinion on Daihatsu Terios/Toyota Rush

Hey Scotty,

Big fan here.

I would like to buy a mini SUV for my family of four. I don't consider a bigger SUV since I don't like to go through tight roads in my neighbourhood with them. But I need rough terrain riding.

What do you think about the 2nd generation (2006-2016) Daihatsu Terios/Toyota Rush made in Japan, 1.5L Automatic 4WD? And what is your opinion on Daihatsu in general?

Thanks!

Daihatsu is the low cost arm of Toyota & specialises in smaller kei vehicles, mostly. However, they are as reliable as Toyota, without the good quality of cosmetic parts, like in a Toyota.

The rush/terios is mainly for the SE Asian market & have somewhat cheap interior quality. They don’t have the best ride, however, they are extremely tough vehicles and can last a long time.

Be sure to have a mechanic check out the vehicle, before you buy it.

They are excellent vehicles Daihatsu is a part of Toyota and those smaller Japanese made SUVs Daihatsu is known for are one of the most reliable Toyota cars out there.

Toyota 1.5 L 3SZ-VE I4 engine + 4 speed automatic? Seems bulletproof to me.

You would still want to research common problems where you are as neither Daihatsu nor that engine is available in the US.
