Which car to buy ?

Topic starter

I am driving a 2002 Honda SI that I am second owner and owned for over 15 years. Just turned 70 and looking for a (3) row SUV. I am thinking with a V-6 (no turbo charged 4 cylinders). Goal would be 30K used. Could you recommend SUV to look for and to avoid. I can get a Buick Enclave pretty reasonable yet have seen videos to avoid that SUV. I would buy from a dealer

Avoid the Buick at all costs; not a good option at all.

A good option would be a v6 Highlander which means previous years as the new ones are turbo charged. Buying used regardless of dealership or private party you would want to make sure to have a trusted independent mechanic check it out for you.

And if you can settle with something smaller then you can even consider a new base Rav4.

The reason for that is they are junk.

Your best bet would be vehicles from Toyota and Honda, of course avoiding any with known inherent problems. Be careful buying from a dealer, most will rip you off not only on the price but on upsells, useless add-ons, and hidden (or not so hidden) fees.

Used Highlander is the way to go. You can get a 2017-2019 model within your price range.
