Hey Scotty,

This is my first time to ask you a question, and by the way I love your videos!

My wife and I are having our first kid, and though that date is still a long way off, I want to go ahead and get her a bigger vehicle. With that being said, She and I both like the 2017-2019 Toyota Highlander platinum edition, but I'm also starting to like the 2017-2019 Ford Explorer with the V-6 twin turbo. I wouldn't mind having a little extra horsepower under the hood, but ONLY if it's reliable. And Toyota's are known for their reliability as you well know. Out of the two, which do you prefer and are they pretty simple to do maintenance on them since I'm a DIY'er?

Thanks and God Bless,

Alex from Texas

I would say get the Highlander for sure, the Ford Explorers that are newer have a lot of issues with the Ecoboost engines and the body staying together. They also in the early years have power steering issues. The Highlander is going to last you longer with less issues in the long run.

Highlander by a mile

Get the Highlander especially if this will be a family vehicle.  The turbos on the Ford will only become a headache later when they break down (remember, there isn't a question of IF something will break, but WHEN).  And those turbos could cost thousands to repair later on.
